It’s that time of year again.
Today’s the day we celebrate the discovery and foiling of one the most infamous plots against the crown and parliament.
Most people are familiar with the old rhyme that goes:
Remember, remember the fifth of November
Gunpowder, treason and plot
I know of no reason why gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot
Terry Deary – author of the Horrible Histories series – came up with this version:
Remember, remember the fifth of November
Gunpowder, treason and plot
Was Guy Fawkes a devil, the Stuarts all saints?
Are we glad that we stopped him…or not?
So I thought I’d join in with my own verse of what Guy Fawkes night has come to mean:
Remember, remember the fifth of November
Gunpowder, treason and plot
Beware of the fireworks, they’re pretty but deadly
And don’t touch the fire – it’s hot!
